A Brief Take on Chiron

(To an ex-student who had a bit of a problem with her Chiron)

In mythology, Chiron the greatest Centaur and healer, is regarded as the archetype of suffering, or being wounded, or bleeding from ‘the wound that never heals’.  In every chart the innate or inborn wound is found in the position and condition of Chiron.  BUT Chiron is a double-sided coin because it also incorporates healing and therapy through the very ‘thing’ that wounds you.  The sword that cuts is the sword that heals; an inoculation introduces the dead cells (antibodies) of the very infection that can kill you.  Thus the resolution of the problem lies in embracing, on some level, the problem itself

Chiron is where we feel inadequate and have an inferiority complex.  It is just this that drives the individual to overcome the sensed lack.  Strangely enough, most ‘normal’ people (is there such a being?) in full maturity, unconsciously become experts and excel at the very wound that bled and could not be healed.  This is akin to a dumb person lecturing better than anybody else, a man with no legs winning races (Pistorius!); a world class swimmer with only one leg; a deaf man writing sublime music (Beethoven) etc.

You need to read up on the Greek myth of Chiron, the greatest of the Centaurs and healer of the Greek healers, who could heal most diseases in others but could never heal the wound in his own leg.  I think Chiron is called ‘the wound that never heals” because so often (but not 100% of the time) the place of Chiron in a chart shows where we cannot heal ourselves but can heal others of the same malady most beautifully.  Perhaps the truly glorious saving grace of Chiron is that we can never fall into hubris and get arrogant in that chart area.

Taking your example of Chiron in Aries in House 5, one could combine all that information into a statement which might go something like this….

“This individual feels inadequate (Chiron) in the area of play and recreations (H5) and will actively, aggressively and energetically (Aries) try to avoid relaxed (or ‘silly’) social environments which wound them (Chiron) and cover up what they unconsciously feel is ineptitude (Chiron) by overworking and cleverly becoming so busy (Aries) that they never have any time to play (H5).  In this way they almost always (90% of them) excel at their profession which, oddly enough (or is it?) is frequently connected to recreation for OTHER people – tourism, casinos, hospitality industry, game lodges, tour guiding, camps for children etc.  Voila!  Chiron’s intention has been achieved.

November 2017 drivers of change: transiting planets Mars square Pluto and Mercury to retrograde in square to Neptune.

Between Sunday 19 November 2017 and Monday 20 November, depending where you are on earth, transiting Mars will square transiting Pluto exact (Figure 1). One can feel the build-up of the energy already!  In addition, we have entered the shadow period of the transiting Mercury retrograde on Wednesday 15 November at 13° Sagittarius. Transiting Mercury retrogrades on 3 December at 29° Sagittarius and then goes direct on 23 December 2017 in 13° Sagittarius. May you have interesting times!

Figure 1: The perfection of the closing square between transiting planets Mars and Pluto on 20 November 2017.

The bigger picture: the Neptune-Pluto synodic cycle

My first observation of the slower rhythms of time is that the Neptune and Pluto are in the 3rd quarter of the zodiac: Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn. At some point there would have been a conjunction in Aries, and the start of repetitive synodic cycles of these two planets. I would guess that this Aries-conjunction may have been at the time homo sapiens saw the light (or not haha), as extrapolated from the dates on these websites: and
The most recent conjunction of Neptune and Pluto started in the colonial times. In the chart of 29 April 1891, Neptune, Pluto, Mars and the North Node were conjunct in 5° of Gemini (Figure 2). We are not even halfway on our way to the next conjunction in about 2384 when Neptune, Pluto, Saturn and the nodes will be at 10° Gemini (Figure 3). With the conjunctions in Aries it was about survival, Taurus about sustaining ourselves and food security, with Gemini on diversity and integration (migration and space travel).

Figure 2: Historic conjunction of Neptune and Pluto in Mercury, associated with Colonial times.

Figure 3: Early conjunction between Neptune and Pluto in 2384, conjuncting also with Saturn.

So coming back to the transiting Mars closing a synodic cycle with transiting Pluto, as well as the transiting Mercury which will retrograde in a closing T-square with transiting Neptune, it appears to be the seconds-hands measuring the bigger period (Neptune-Pluto = hours) on the larger clock telling us the time. The Neptune-Pluto cycle symbolises the development of us as homo sapiens, with our need of survival, diversity of cultures, fears and hopes.

Pluto-Mars synodic cycle

The transiting Pluto-Mars synodic, symbolises phases in which we set out to achieve something new, where we force our will and ideals to develop and create forcefully. There is no grace and subtlety in what we want, it is direct, harsh and impatient. In October 2016 the conjunction of Mars-Pluto took place in 15° Capricorn, and in Capricorn it meant that we wanted to manifest something physical, have an impact on society and life, and receive recognition for what we have set out to do. In the period building up on the closing square of transiting Mars to transiting Pluto on 19/20 November 2017, one may feel frustrated that the original plans did not manifest in the way it was visualised. One may feel frustrated with others not appreciating what needs to be done, or hindering one in implementing one’s good plans. Or one may be frustrated at systems not being in place or serving people the way it should be done, effective and ethical. Anger towards ineffective or corrupt leadership may surface, and the energy may be volatile, ready to blow its top. The frustrations will boil over at all levels, ranging from being annoyed with the traffic cops, to work systems being inefficient, bosses being unethical or corrupt to the government and leaders of states. It is a phase in which we reassess the plans so that through the disintegration one would discover reasons why things don’t work, and re-plan for the next upcoming cycle, starting about 26 April 2018 in 21° Capricorn.

So if you can understand the energy, one can actually relax and sit back to observe what it is that is decaying and trying to reorganise itself. Observe with curiosity how frustration and anger is expressed and avoid taking party in it. Transiting Mars in Libra is attempting to find balance from the extreme polarities that are experienced, but it may be a temporary exaggerated perspective. When Transiting Mars joins the other planets in Scorpio, the tension may have two outlet routes: either separation of people from what caused the frustration, or a strong synergistic drive to move towards change. Obviously trying to stop the change will result in further frustration and a sense of loss, whereas joining to force of evolvement, will result more in feeling of satisfaction and acceptance of the change.

Mercury retrogrades in a closing square to Neptune

Transiting Mercury will retrograde in a closing T-square to transiting Neptune between 15 November and 23 December 2017, and between 13 and 29° of Sagittarius. This period may be characterised by poor to no communication. Retrogrades are usually experience in three phases: (i) the first being the shadow period during which issues transpire (15 November – 3 December 2017); (ii) the second during which you attempt to address the issues and test what works (3 – 23 December 2017) and (iii) the off-set phase during which the tested new ways will be implemented (after 23 December). A Mercury period symbolises a time during which we are confronted with changing our ways. In a square to Neptune, the effect is ballooning out of proportion and escalated to larger proportions.

For example, during the military coop of Zimbabwe between 6 and 19 November 2017, it was unclear what was happening and whether it was a military coop or not. The synergistic energy of the planets in Scorpio during this time (Sun, Venus and Jupiter – see Figure 1) supported the polarisation of forces (Mars in Libra) against authority figures and rulers (Pluto in Capricorn). In other ways, the Mercury retrograde also may have allowed for the expression of frustration of people against dictatorial rule (Mars-Pluto square). With Mercury squaring Neptune though, such verbal complaints expressing frustration and opposing points of view, may have been exaggerated as a result of the square of Mercury to Neptune. Therefore, one may say too much and possibly regret it later, and would have to cover up more fires than necessary. However, it may have been necessary evolution, and with the retrograde of Mercury, it may be that the complaints, fights and airing of frustration will eventually resulted in a minor (or major, like in the case of Zimbabwe) change that are requires evolutionary adjustments along the fault lines of time.

The combination of the Mars-Pluto and Mercury-Neptune, had a combined effect on policy and finances. For example, internationally, research organisations had seen a decline in research funding. Contrary to the private sector which has experienced staff lay-offs in the economic recession of about 3 – 5 years ago in South Africa, the research sector appeared to be less affected back then. The declining growth rate of the South African economy, as well as policies which appears to favour the empowerment of small upcoming companies, has resulted in a challenge with research funding, regardless of the purpose to benefit society (Mercury in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces). On other levels one feels the South African economy going through creaks and shifts of adjustment, unable to continue indefinitely. The working middle class, who has supported to poor and fat cats above, is starting to break with the mushroom’s head getting too heavy for the stem.

The current Mercury retrograde period will therefore appear to impact people more broadly than other mercury retrogrades, since it aspects Neptune in Pisces. On a personal level, be patient with things that may go wrong in 3s or more. Transiting Mercury will conjunct transiting Saturn by middle January 2018, and will solidify changes that has been lingering since middle November 2017, more strongly.

Some thoughts on the South African national elections 2019

The next national election is planned for 2019, and I have taken 26 April 2019 as a guestimate of the date on which it may be planned (Figure 4). In 2019, transiting Saturn and transiting Pluto will conjunct in 20° Capricorn on the South Node, with Saturn exactly on the South Node. The conjunction shows a change in leadership, although this may just be musical chairs: a replacement of the front face shown to the public, but no change in the engine room where operations take place, necessarily. Transiting Jupiter in Sagittarius may reflect over-optimism around the economy and possible growth prospects for the next phase of the South African politics. It seems more like SA will end of with a tremendous amount of debt as a result of the over optimism with which the Zupta’s raided the country’s resources (Transiting Jupiter, retrograde against Mars and Neptune). Transiting Mars will square transiting Neptune and oppose the Jupiter, showing again the use of propaganda and slogans to polarise cultural and economic groups. Well the proof will lie in the pudding when Transiting Jupiter hits Capricorn and the fun and games would hopefully become more serious.

Figure 4: Guestimate date of next South African national general elections, April 2019.

In conclusion, it is important to recognise the smaller events within the bigger picture of time. The smaller synodic cycles of Mercury and Mars relative to the Neptune-Pluto cycles, shows the steps of evolution and changes we are taking, relative to the bigger phases of evolution. Although Mars and Mercury appear to be minor indicators of change at a given moment in time, they signify the smaller steps which have cumulated into the bigger shift. To identify patterns of change it is important to reflect back on the occurrences during the squares of these inner planets to the outer planets to understand what is evolving.

The Zuma Debacle: 2005 to 2015 by Albertus LightStrider (written Dec 2005)

Greetings everyone, here’s a reminder of an article I wrote in 2005 on Zuma and thought I’d share it with you.

I ended that article thus: It reminds me of the Wheel of Life, and karmic actions, which will come to term in a major and crucial way between 2012 and 2017.

The Zuma Debacle will resonate throughout 2006 to 2008

He was born in the mountains of Nkandla, Kwa-Zulu Natal, on April 12, 1942 with the Sun and Mercury in Aries, a strong, energetic symbol that suggests power and drive.

Mercury symbolises mind and communication, and in Aries, which is the sign of the head, it signifies a persuasive speaker and charismatic presence, and all this mercurial and martial energy manifests as the following:
•He was a resistance fighter in the ANC struggle.
•He is a hero and former spy master.
•As a youth he was a goatherd.
•He is a master of traditional Zulu-stick-fighting, it reminds me of Zen Buddhist fighting.

Social Venus
In Zuma’s birth-chart Venus, sign of grace, charm and popularity is exalted in Pisces.

The exaltation of Venus is the strongest point in his chart and is the Morning Star, called by the Xhosa Ikhwezi, the most transcendent and powerful star.

Small wonder that Zuma has won so many ardent followers and supporters.
•His warmth and energy is attractive.
•Insofar as Venus is the sign of love, Zuma and his followers were having a genuine public and political love affair.

Just to demonstrate how the power of this Venus exaltation,
Venus was a key feature in the charts:
•Martin Luther King, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and novelist Victor Hugo.

They all had the ability to speak directly to people about the people’s problems, to energise a feeling of patriotism and public spirit, and they all evoked a sense of kinship with humanity.

In Zuma’s chart Venus of fair play combines forcefully with the Mercury energy and signifies clear public communication and an easy connection with the public’s desire for freedom and a better life in the future.

It was a great omen for his hope of the presidency.
•This strength is also, not surprisingly, a source of weakness.
•His great ability to inspire public adulation also breeds the need for, and dependency on, that kind of attention.
•This Venus quality registers prominently until 2007, Zuma’s 65th year.
•It was a great omen for his hope of the presidency.
2003 to 2011

That’s what we see in Zuma’s chart, but an individual’s chart must always be seen in the light of what’s happening in the sky right at this time.

2003 to 2011
Uranus ingressed Pisces in March 2003 and it remains active until 2011.
•It’s a disruptive, unpredictable energy.
•Uranus represents the power-brokers of our society, people who have been voted into the highest rank by popular consensus.

Disruptive Uranus conjoined the Venus in Zuma’s chart from 2003 to 2005 and that’s exactly where the rumours, accusations and legal proceedings began.
•Uranus is a symbol of dissatisfaction, legal procedure and a divorce from the positive rewards of the Venus energy.
Venus rules Taurus and Taurus in Zuma’s birth-chart has Saturn and Uranus conjunct, which is willful and ambitious.
•This is the crucial point of balance.
•Saturn and Uranus are great leadership planets, they signify strength and energy.
•Saturn is the traditional figure, convinced and confident about its power.
•Uranus is the rebel, the need to assert an individual freedom and power outside the existing structure.
•It’s a breakaway energy, looking to stand alone and use its charismatic energy to attract followers towards it.
•It is the sign of the eternal rebel.

Zuma Like Medusa: The snake-haired demon who lured people and turned them to stone with her baleful gaze.

In Zuma’s birth-chart, Saturn and Uranus are powerfully linked to two Fixed Stars – Algol and the Pleiades

Algol – controlling factor, is startling symbolism for those who hold high office.

Both these Fixed Stars signify great insight and prominence but also warn of a downfall and a cause for weeping.

The Pleiades popularly known as the Seven Sisters, were the seven mythological figures who weep. In African cosmology they are known as Selemela for the Sotho and Tswana, and isi-Limela for the Zulu and they relate to the change of seasons.
•Algol is more serious, and is the symbol is the malevolent Medusa, the snake-haired demon who lured people and turned them to stone with her baleful gaze.
•Algol is associated with decapitation because that was the only way to kill Medusa. It is signifies panic, and losing your head and is also associated with downfall and loss.
•When Zuma was charged with rape on December 6, 2005 Mercury of the media and news was opposing Algol.
•When the trial begins Mars, symbolising anger and dispute, will be conjunct Algol, from February 9 to 18, when will meet both Algol and the Pleiades.
•When the alleged rape took place Venus was in harmful aspect to the fixed star Algol. And Venus was conjunct Pluto (additional article written in The Saturday Star – Celestial Focus dated 10 December 2005)

Secrets Revealed
Pluto, the revealer of secrets that brings hidden things to light, is also exactly quincunx a discordant and fateful degree with Algol from February 14, 2006 and for the rest of the 2006 suggesting that events started here will resonate throughout the next two years until 2008.
•Pluto is the symbol of the plutocrat, when it ingresses Capricorn, the sign of big business and money, it will oppose Cancer.
•This is the meeting point of his Sun and Neptune,
•This is a signature of illusion, the big dream and his image of himself as an untouchable.

2012 to 2015
Uranus is always an element of surprise and shock, it’s the divorcing factor and when it meets with his Mercury it will be interesting to see how he defends his actions, how he battles the media of what his says and what he truly stands for between 2012 and 2015.

Observing these dates will give a great clue into the ingenious, exciting roller-coaster ride that is the mercurial surprise element, which will reveal his mind-set, his interaction with the media and his self-promotion during the ongoing Zuma saga:
•Between June to August 2013 and following to March 2014
•Mid April to end May 2014, with a special focus May 3 to 8.
•October to November 2014 and thereafter until March 2015.
•February 2015 is the crucial culmination of what has emerged since 2012.

2008 to 2024
Pluto is the symbol of the plutocrat, when it ingresses Capricorn (2008 to 2024), the sign of big business and money, it will oppose Cancer.

This is the meeting point of his Sun/Neptune, which brings a major warning, as devious Pluto always brings hidden matters to light.

Pluto is about the darkness we hide, and bringing matters to light will be directly linked to this Sun/Neptune midpoint.
•This is a signature of illusion, the big dream and his image of himself as an untouchable.
•The question is what is he hiding, and how will his illusions be shattered?
•Part of this illusion, is related to deception, either of the self, or of others who have him in their hold, or is it him who has the power over others?
•Who exactly is the victim, or playing the victim?
•Who is being influenced by whom?
Who exactly has the power over others?

This brings me back to that Algol factor mentioned above – who exactly has the power over others?

Never forget that these hidden Algol-factors are far reaching, yet when they start crumbling, or falling it will have a major domino effect. As they say there are too many fingers in the proverbial ongoing-Zuma-saga.

Future Crisis: Plutonian undertones and elements that will bring with it the darkness and secrets of his life.

This is what can expect in future when that Cancer midpoint is activated:
•The Jupiter/Pluto signature: exploitation, over exaggeration, conflict with authority, big scandal, loss of power
•The Mars/Pluto signature: ruthlessness, over-confidence, success and misfortune
•The Jupiter/Chiron factor: wounded by excessive behaviour and expenditure
It will all also activate his birth-chart Mercury, the mercurial Zuma, what he says, how he communicates and how he defends himself against the onslaught.

Mercury is related to all communication and travel, whether it be the written word, or contracts signed, or not signed, it can be verbal agreements and that is where the fly in the ointment could be.

This is the major focus for 2016.
•What is not said, and what has been agreed upon, will eventually determine how high or low this will be.
•Never forget the mercurial-media, and how their influence in disclosure will play out on the future.
•For good or ill, this will be a great time of disclosure of his life and actions, which will be brought to light.
•All depending on his actions, it will determine the Plutonian undertones and elements that will bring with it the darkness and secrets of his life.

It reminds me of the Wheel of Life, and karmic actions, which will come to term in a major and crucial way between 2012 and 2017.

It’s not just about hindsight, when one is true to Astrology, the truth prevails, so once in a while I update posts, having posted recently due to the ongoing Zuma Saga.

I read my previous articles and especially those of 2005 and those of that crucial ANC meeting in Limpopo where the power shifted to Zuma.

When I find the Event Horary of his first inauguration which gives much food for thought, I’ll perhaps post it as well.

For now I retreat to what is important to me, my privacy and life away from public intrusion.

As requested by Laurie – a brief biography follows.

Ever shapeshifting and being-in-tune, Albertus LightStrider, treasures his privacy more than his precious books, he chose to retire from public scrutiny after his 2nd Saturn Return, he non-the-less keeps a cosmic astrological eye on everything he encounters.

With great sensitivity and intuition he lives close to the to the mysteries of life and the magic of daily living, now especially important as he and his Beloved of 42 years live a peaceful life being attuned to what really matters to them (to continue living with grace, kindness and love away from public intrusion) thus consciously focusing on the Zen-like living creating blessed memories for the future every living moment of their ever evolving “now”.

Briefly, LightStrider, was introduced to astrology at a very early age, reading predictive astrology magazines as early as age 6. Since then he has explored numbers and dreams, which initially led him to astrology in 1962.
