North Korea Nuclear Missile Test E-mail
Written by Yolande Korsten

Breaking news on 09 October was that North Korea had detonated their first nuclear weapon underground. Since they were nice enough to publish the co-ordinates and the time the actual test happened, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to look at the event chart for the test.

The Story

North Korea Nuclear Test
North Korea Nuclear Test
According to the news story on NewsScientist Tech the test prompted condemnation from around the world. "The communist state had signalled the underground test was to take place. It carried out its threat on Monday [9 Oct], despite warnings from the international community." [i]

The official statement from the North Korean government was that they performed the test to deter a military attack from the US. "It marks a historic event as it greatly pleased the Korean People's Army and people that wished to have a powerful self-reliant defence capability." [i]

Are the answers to these questions in the chart:

  • Can you see the world condemnation of the test in the event chart?
  • What is North Korea's feeling about the test - both the general public and the government? Not the official version, but the real sentiment.
  • Can you see in this chart whether the Nuclear Non-Proliferation efforts are going to have an impact on them now that they've tested their first weapon?
  • Are they going to become a threat?

These are the things that jumped out at me when looking at the chart:

Yod with Moon in Taurus (5th house) and Uranus in Pisces (3rd house) and Venus in Libra (10th house) at the apex. China called the test brazen. Japan labelled it unpardonable. South Korea stated that its neighbour's behaviour was a "grave threat to peace and stability" [i]

Mercury in Scorpio in 11th - North Korea did tell the world that they were going to do an underground nuclear test.

Jupiter in Scorpio in 12th part of T-Square with Moon in Taurus (world condemnation because a threat to basic security?) and Neptune in Aquarius at the apex (illusion/delusion that humanitarian considerations would prevent North Korea from going on with the test?)

Mars & Venus both combust - in Libra, sign of war?

Jupiter in Scorpio at apex of T-Square with Saturn in Leo & Neptune in Aquarius.

The chart ruler, Jupiter, is in the 12th house of self-undoing. Had North Korea considered the potential damage they're doing to themselves? Consider that it rules not only the Ascendant, but also the fourth house of home, roots and heritage.

These are just a couple of the thoughts on this chart and I'm sure that there are many more interesting snippets of information hidden here. So go ahead - let me know what you think about the chart and its implications - send your thoughts to

Ultimately, can one use a mundane event chart for predictive work?

Speaking of which, imagine the need to guard hell, anyway. Who in their right mind, according the mythic/theological representations of what hell is, would want to sneak in there?
