Inspiration and Manifestation E-mail
Written by Jayanta Bhowmick

Man's journey into the world since time immemorial, in all the practical and most accepted senses, can be contained in the two basic subjective concepts: The Inspiration, and the Material expression. Both of these forces are quite complicated as is their interrelation. Some lunar and saturnine insights glipsed from Vedic Astrology.

Man's career upkeep - his strategies and operations, not really for a qualitative measurement of sheer achievement or failure, but for a far larger canvas depicting even the transitional grey areas or numerous overlooked annotations in life - is subsequently designed and mapped with two major idiosyncratic poles ruled by the Moon and Saturn.

Human life is linked to the astral formulations, and planets do reflect their energy through man's existential selves. This very existentialism, consciously or subconsciously, whether esoterically or exoterically, becomes generated, regenerated or delineated by our psychical formation indicated by the Moon, and the real manifestation through our relative or derivative actions governed by Saturn. In a nativity, the fourth house is commonly called 'the house of mind'. This 'mind' or our mental status has everything to do with our inner psychical movements - intrinsically allowing the very compass connected with our inspiration to settle or to maintain the direction we should or do take after we start our journey. Cancer being the natural fourth house is itself associated with the house representing the mental diagram of the Cosmic Man. So, quite logically, every native has much to do with the sign, Cancer, and its lord, the Moon, in corroborating his 'mental' position, besides having a judgment for the respective 4th house from his ascendant.

In the Vedic prognosis, Cancer denotes the sea or the ocean which gives the picturesque glimpse of the hidden treasure, undercurrents within the flow, unaccounted secrecies and depth, instability especially in its visual level, and big and small waves ever-changing keeping no pace with time or regularity. And the lord, the Moon, the planet for our psyche, is solemnized with an angular lordship in the Zodiac, forming the Psychic Trinity with Mars and Jupiter, who own the Zodiacal eighth and twelfth signs, Scorpio and Pisces, respectively.

Cancer in Vedic Astrology has been referred to as 'Hiranyagarbha' or the Cosmic Womb where the seeds or the essential elements for future growth reside latently. The Moon itself has been endowed with the maternal grandeur that, if or when absent, the childhood or nascent stages of a child becomes badly affected or hampered. This very absence of motherly care and protection makes one feel shrunken deep down inside one's emotional world and suffers thus from a sense of insecurity. Which, in turn, can make one develop some diabolical cravings in life.

In contrast with Cancer representing the eternal flow of our inspiration and the positivism that is linked to our emotional Milky Way, Capricorn, the tenth sign in the Zodiac, is the acknowledged zone of manifestation and concretization. Capricorn, which in some classical texts, this sign has been described as the meditative sign of Saturn, has the greatest (and the highest too, as the tenth sign is the meridian) angular power which is focused with the supreme achiever factor(s), representing 'Karma'. As indeed, under this very consequence and with this same categorical emphasis, we have to consider the subtle and yet principal difference between 'the achievement' and 'the sense of achievement'. One may feel satisfied while others around may, with their counter-arguments, prove that status has not been achieved. And there is vice versa, too, of course. Apart from its materializing and exerting nature, Saturn in its esoteric sense often works at that very realm, which can better be understood as 'between matter and mind'.

As per the Vedic Astrological Texts, Saturn symbolizes a queer, obscure and mysterious consciousness hidden in our being or inner-self. Saturn is very influential in bridging the chapters of our previous incarnations with the inherent process by which the stream of our inspiration in the present incarnation is translated into the manifestation of our material self. Saturn in the Vedic text has been depicted as representing the consciousness of man as well as that of an animal - both being mixed or mingled with each other. This characteristic trait is indicative of some great truth woven into any or every life, if judged philosophically or commonly. Inspiration in its purest form is somewhat beyond definition and has no material form, but is a critical factor in motivating one for his material journey. Inspiration comes from within, and takes the form of demands and desires, which ultimately channels one into the focal need for a particular expression.

In the animal, desires and demands are embodied in the crudest manner. It is that very 'animal-power' held by Saturnine traits, which enables man to become expressive through the hardest process. It then denotes that there is an inseparable bondage or blending of both material and intellectual values, the rights and effectiveness in the natural inclinations of Saturn. While the intellectual acumen is ready to accept inspiration defined and supplied by the Moon or the Lunar mansion, the material features of Saturn are entirely ready to be steered towards the concrete, hardcore effects in the real, visible world.

It is very interesting to note that the relation between the Moon and Saturn has in Vedic Astrology been catalyzed by another planet, Venus - which has generally been accepted to exclusively signify the material embellishment in one's life. Both the Moon and Saturn become exalted [i] in the Venusian signs, Taurus and Libra, respectively.

The Moon becomes exalted in the 11th house as counted from its natural house, Cancer. Mind or psyche thus has a strong connection with earthly gratification denoted by Venus, and Taurus being an earthly sign further corroborates this albeit more subtly. In another canvas, Saturn, the final verdict regarding the Doctrine of Karma in Vedic Astrology, has its exalted sign in the tenth (i.e., Libra) from its first sign, Capricorn.

Capricorn and Cancer, primarily confronting each other, thus through Venusian acumen become somewhat diluted with each other's traits and sets a strange connection in planetary parlance.

Interestingly, while carbon is symbolized by Saturn, diamond - a hugely transformed form of carbon - is represented by Venus. Again, Saturn stands for death, after which the body of any living creature in the world, including trees and plants, slowly decomposes. Once the process of decomposition is complete, carbon remains as the last residue. Carbon and calcium are the most enduring remains, which, amazingly enough, are denoted by Saturn in Vedic Astrology. Carbon over a long period may to turn into diamond (represented by Venus), the hardest object upon earth.

This deep-rooted, far-reaching, subtly inherent relation between Venus and Saturn has a strong archetypical value in Vedic Astrology. Venus also represents sugar, which is the molecular blending of water and glucose. When heated, sugar gradually turns to carbon. This shows that one of the intrinsic elementary ingredients of sugar (represented by Venus) also has a watery component, where water is symbolized by Cancer, owned by the Moon. The relationship between coal (carbon) and diamond, and also with sugar and carbon, thus creates enough space to ponder the subtle and amazing connection primarily between Venus and Saturn, and then between Venus, Saturn and the Moon.

The hidden source of karmic energy represented by Ketu, carries in its deeper sense, the reflective repository from the previous birth or incarnation. Ketu represents the coiling of our mind - our subconscious translucent part that, through the proper channeling of the power of inspiration, energizes and instigates the initiation of actions and makes things happen in reality. Now, 'actions' and 'happenings in reality' also fall within the domain of Saturn. In any major undertaking that deals with man's substantial motivation, this represents the 'power of inspiration'. Therefore it delivers great meaning: the Moon - signifying the eternity of inspiration through its psychical ranges and stages, in actuality sets up the subtlest of links between Ketu and Saturn.

THE EIGHTH HOUSE AND ITS CONNECTION WITH SATURN:

The eighth house in the Vedic system denotes

  • the quantum of one's life,
  • death related factors,
  • the nature of death,
  • the longevity and general health till the last breath,
  • one's hidden assets and the hidden ways to gain something (gain is denoted by 11th house, and 8th is the 10th of 11th; 10th is direction or modus operandi, while 8th is the hidden house),
  • unwanted and unexpected events in life - both good and bad,
  • sudden and unexpected events in life and career,
  • obscure corners in one's life,
  • spiritual or esoteric bents present in a native,
  • and also, the occult functioning and those forces which operate from an unknown hideout for the ultimate or
  • miraculous safeguards in a native's life.

Eighth also stands for the preposterous happenings and clandestine relations in life. Saturn, if joined directly with the eighth related factors, especially posited in the eighth house, is considered to be a largely protective factor for one's longevity. (Of course, the very condition attached to the subsequent power and position of the eighth lord itself is to be intricately, carefully examined).

Quite interesting and noteworthy, once again, is another indirect or rather catalytic relation between the Moon and Saturn, if we take a Vedic flyby.

In the higher vibration (though not necessarily spiritualistic or esoteric) - in the much broader sense than is most commonly understood or believed - the eighth house is endowed with another quintessential hallmark : The eighth stands for the concept of 'Expansion'. In the eighth, there is a secret, mystic energy that helps materialize the cosmic current in one who is tangled with the coarse substances of mortality and crude earthliness.

The eighth has a metamorphosis that breaks the shackles of normal, cringed life, and makes one integrate all those unnoticed, unutilized elements in his own existence, channeling the entire composition synergistically and running ahead for a much, much greater mission for which the Supreme Ego has taken birth in the material world. Saturn in all the senses - be that spiritual or mundane - has been considered as the natural significator of the eighth house, [ii] while the Moon has its natural significance for both the fourth and tenth houses. The fourth house rules over the emotional charges and the force of inspiration, the eighth (which is a trine to the fourth) denotes expansion, and the tenth stands for Karma.

It is again to be remembered - while Capricorn is the domain of karma being the tenth sign of the Zodiac, Saturn is the natural significator of the eighth or expansion. At the same time, it can again not be ruled out that Saturn itself being 'Aayukaaraka' (the indicator of one's longevity) subtly relates to the understanding of expansion - in the sense that the word 'Aayu' means the years or the span of time accounted for one's bodily presence upon earth.

Here is a series of horoscopes, the first seven of which belong to the Presidents of the USA, and the last one to a very famous American Army General.

Abraham Lincoln: Asc, Sun & Mercury - Aquaruius. Jupiter & Venus - Pisces. Ketu - Aries. Mars & Rahu - Libra. Saturn - Scorpio. Moon - Capricorn.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Asc - Leo. Rahu - Scorpio. Sun & Venus - Capricorn. Mercury - Aquarius. Jupiter & Saturn - Aries. Ketu - Taurus. Moon & Mars - Gemini.

Richard Nixon: Asc - Leo. Ketu - Virgo. Jupiter, Mercury, Sun & Mars - Sagittarius. Venus - Aquarius. Moon - Capricorn. Rahu - Pisces. Saturn - Taurus.

Harry S Truman: Asc - Virgo. Moon & Rahu - Libra. Sun & Ketu - Aries. Mercury & Saturn - Taurus. Venus - Gemini. Jupiter & Mars - Cancer.

John F Kennedy: Asc - Virgo. Ketu - Sagittarius. Mars & Mercury - Aries. Sun, Jupiter & Venus - Taurus. Rahu - Gemini. Saturn - Cancer. Moon - Leo.

Bill Clinton: Asc, Venus & Mars - Virgo. Jupiter - Libra. Ketu - Scorpio. Moon - Aries. Rahu - Taurus. Mercury & Saturn - Cancer. Sun - Leo.

George Bush: Asc, Mercury, Venus & Saturn - Cancer. Mars - Leo. Moon & Jupiter - Virgo. Ketu - Scorpio. Rahu - Taurus. The Sun -Gemini.

General Franco: Asc, Venus & Ketu - Libra. Sun - Scorpio. Mercury - Sagittarius. Mars - Aquarius. Jupiter - Pisces. Rahu - Aries. Moon - Taurus. Saturn - Virgo.

(Planets in the charts are counted in an anti-clockwise direction from the ascendant taken as the first house.)

A couple of observations can be made from the resulting context of the above horoscopes, with an interesting focus:

OBSERVATION ONE

In the horoscope of each of the Presidents' cases, the Moon has been significantly influenced by Saturn (the planet standing for the mass, the republican structure or the democracy), while Saturn has not received any influence from the Moon either by aspect [iii] or by conjunction.

In each of these cases, Saturn either aspects the Moon or Cancer, or Saturn is in Cancer. In no cases are the Moon and Saturn aspecting each other or conjoined (to neutralize each other).

OBSERVATION TWO

As far as the presidents' charts are concerned, Saturn is either at an angle or near the meridian. Position wise, Saturn is in the ninth, tenth or eleventh house (in Bush's case, Saturn is at the ascendant with the eleventh lord, aspecting both the ninth lord and tenth house). In each case, Saturn has direct or empowering relation with the tenth house related factors: Either Saturn is in the tenth, or in an angle from the tenth house or tenth lord, or conjoined with the tenth lord.

OBSERVATION THREE

In all seven presidential charts, there is an interesting relation between Mars and Saturn. Either Mars has nothing to do with Saturn, or Mars and Saturn are neutralizing each other, or Saturn is influencing (aspecting) Mars.

Noticeably, Mars is not overruling Saturn in any of the presidential charts. Wherever Mars aspects Saturn, Mars is also simultaneously aspected by Saturn.

In notable contrast with these seven charts, the placing of the Moon and Saturn in the horoscope of a very famous American Army-General, General Franco, shows us another interesting picture. In the Vedic chart of Franco, the Moon has practically no connection with Saturn - therefore, in no way is the Moon influenced by Saturn. Interesting again, while all the seven Presidents have their Saturn either in the meridian house or in the adjacent houses (ninth or eleventh) or in the Ascendant-centre - at least not in any house from the Psychic Trinity (4th-8th-12th) - Franco's natal Saturn is posited in the 12th, a house from the Psychic Trinity itself. Mention should be made that, unlike the charts belonging to the Presidents, Mars in Franco's Vedic chart is aspecting Saturn, while it receives no aspect from Saturn.

Mars and Saturn in Vedic Astrology share a remarkable relation with each other. Aries is solemnly treated as the Energy Storehouse, while Capricorn being the tenth sign governing the Karmic arena is totally connected with matter or material facts. From another concomitant trait that deals with the planets' exaltation and debility, Mars and Saturn form a noteworthy nexus. Mars stands for ENERGY and Saturn for MASS. Now, most logically and scientifically, energy and mass are but two different existential forms of the same symbiotic abstraction. Mars, though characteristically at odds with Saturn, becomes exalted in Capricorn, a Saturnine sign. And, strangely again, Saturn becomes debilitated in Aries. We can derive from this symbolism one great truth connected with the Zodiacal enumeration in the Vedic system:

The hardness of Saturn representing 'matter' or the material form, becomes subverted, transformed or metamorphosed into the form of 'energy' in the Martian house of Aries. In contrast, Martian 'energy' takes the crudest form of 'matter' in Capricorn. This interesting play between Martian and Saturnine vibrations has a lot to do with the qualitative connection between 'energy' and 'mass' in man's inner motivations and bias in expression within reality.

Relevant and important, another observation would make the whole context more interestingly expatiated. In none of the charts belonging to the Presidents, is the Moon posited in the tenth house - nor is it directly aspecting the tenth house, nor is it conjoined with the tenth lord. However, the Moon in each case has a significant connection with 'tenth related factors'. It should be taken into consideration that, while the Moon stands for the Cosmic Psychical Force, the Lunar dispositor shows how, under what conditional predominance, the native's psychical formation supplies the waves or low of inspiration throughout his life. No doubt, after a great churning, after a battle with one's self - be it a frantic search for an ultimate decision for one's life, a constant process of trials and errors involving all sorts of toppling and tumbling, or a tiny, minute self-quibble, one can and does enable himself to come across what can be said the great serendipity of his life; whether from the esoteric approach of the Cosmogenesis, or in its earthly appeal instrumented through the common human life, this whole process can itself be said to be mingled, unified with the outpouring of our inspiration. The Presidentcy in a country is NOT a psychical work; but it is clear that the task of taking on leadership of a country was there in the innermost psychical formation, as was acted out in some way in all of the Presidents' real lives.

There is both a 'King' and a 'Common Man' in all of us. The revered king is represented by the Sun, while the common man receives the vow and verdict from Saturn in the horoscope. It is Jupiter that keeps the balance between these two selves, and decides whether the king would watch his order executed while sitting in his throne, or whether he would descend from the throne himself to implement his own order in the common, day-to-day life. Mercury stands for the creative intellect. Mars indicates the rationale, readiness or frequency of energy needed for the task to be performed in the objective reality; and Venus holds the power of application, without which, despite being in synergy with all values, nothing happens. Passion and emotion are the elementary ingredients of 'Inspiration' represented by the Moon. Ketu is responsible for this inspiration in the present incarnated ego, while Rahu symbolizes the ultimate form in which this inspiring energy would be valued.

Two very polarized factors thus become decisive in making an incarnation eclectic and exclusively defined: THE TYPE OF INSPIRATION that needs to be supplied as the latent energy for the key objective in life; and THE KARMIC MANIFESTATION, through which the whole system of one's existential substantiality is expressed in the mundane sphere.

In Vedic symbolism, Scorpio (to its credit) has a tremendous efficacy as far as human psychology is concerned. As 'ninth' stands for the regenerative, intellectual or supermental acumen, eighth represents that which works as the stepping stone or threshold before the birth of the new theory. 'Eighth' has the NEW MEMORANDUM that has been prayed into being through the ages by many an oracular congregation.

Such a 'process of renewal' helps draw another inference. Scorpio, the eighth sign essentially represents death or quantum of life, and is owned by Mars who, in turn, owns Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, as well. It thus caters for a great truth in the Vedic symbolism: The incarnated being (Aries) through its last stage (i.e., the dissolution of the physical shell) enters into the mysterious process of renewal (Scorpio), only to achieve the 'latest' and 'most progressed' version of the New Age Manifesto for higher, better and greater life.

Therefore, psychologists tend to have a strong eighth house in their charts. Psycho-analysts, primarily targeting their insights from the hidden self, show noteworthy connections with regards to the Moon, Saturn and a couple of derivative experiments in their Vedic charts. Here are the Vedic charts of the three world-renowned psychotherapists from the nineteenth century:

Sigmund Freud: Asc & Ketu - Libra. Jupiter - Pisces. Sun, Venus & Rahu - Aries. Moon & Mercury - Taurus. Saturn - Gemini. Mars - Virgo.

Havelock Ellis: Asc & Rahu - Aquarius. Mars - Pisces. Jupiter - Taurus. Saturn - Cancer. Ketu - Leo. Venus - Sagittarius. Sun, Moon & Mercury - Capricorn.

Carl Gustav Jung: Asc - Capricorn. Saturn - Aquarius. Rahu - Pisces. Moon - Aries. Venus & Mercury - Gemini. Sun - Cancer. Ketu - Virgo. Jupiter - Libra. Mars - Scorpio.

(Planets in the charts are counted in the anti-clockwise direction from the ascendant taken as the first house.)

First, let us look at some observations.

As we have already discussed, we look towards the enigmatic traits lying with the much-contemplated eighth house and eight house related factors. In each case, the eighth lord from the ascendant has a relation with those features related to the seventh house. In Freud's Vedic chart, the eighth lord - Venus - is in the seventh house, Aries. Ellis' eighth and seventh lords, Mercury and the Sun respectively, are conjoined in the twelfth house, Capricorn. Jung's eighth lord - the Sun - is in the seventh house, Cancer.

The eighth house - being the secret, obscure aspects of a man's existential self and a house from the Psychic Trinity (4th-8th-12th) - has a large impact on psychoanalysis. The eighth also stands for research pursuits and probing-into-the-facts - for digging and excavating continuously. The seventh house in Vedic Astrology rules one's personality that faces and is faced by the ones sitting at the other side of the table. For doctors, those are the patients. Within their sphere of expertise, psycho-analysts and psycho-therapists have their dealings with the subjective (as well as objective) values of both 'behaviorism' and 'persona' - where 'behaviorism' is an outer expression of the psychical realm (under the eighth house traits), and 'persona' has to do with the seventh house related traits.

Ours is the motto to find out the subtlest link between the vibrations of the different houses or house-related aspects that catalytically work with the Lunar placement (the very base of inspiration) and the Saturnine position (representing the Karmic manifestation).

Now, let us proceed with another observation. At least one of the houses from the Progress Trinity (2nd-6th-10th) from the sign occupied by Saturn is influenced by the planet owning one of the houses from the Psychic Trinity (4th-8th-12th) as read from the sign sheltering the Moon. This amazing idiosyncrasy gives rise to an understanding of larger revelations connected with the subjective approach of Vedic Astrology.

The sign where Saturn is stationed can virtually be taken as the symbol of Karmic expression. Since 2nd-6th-10th stands for the Progress Trinity (Artha Trikona or Karmic Trinity), the 2nd-6th-10th houses counted from Saturn itself must have a strong Karmic vibration. Similarly, the Lunar station carries the iconic symbolism of one's inspiration. And, since the psychic impetus is needed at the beginning of each and every mainstream work in life, the fourth, eighth and twelfth houses (carrying the intrinsically strong vibration of the Moon) from the Lunar placement, thus influence the effective points connected with Saturn in the charts of the psycho-analysts.

In Freud's Vedic chart, the fourth, eighth and twelfth lords from the Lunar station Taurus are the Sun, Jupiter and Mars respectively; and the second, sixth and tenth houses from Gemini are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Jupiter is posited in the tenth house from Saturn, thereby aspecting the second and sixth houses from Gemini (where Saturn is placed). Mars, the twelfth lord from the Moon, casts its aspect upon Jupiter placed in Pisces (Jupiter is the tenth lord, in the tenth, from Gemini). Instead of further detailed discussion, the application of this method in the other two Vedic charts belonging to (A) Havelock Ellis and (B) Carl Gustav Jung have been shown in tabular form:

Moon InSaturn In4th, 8th & 12th Lords
from the Moon
2nd, 6th & 10th Lords
from Saturn
Influence in the
Discussed Context
(A) CapricornCancerMars, Sun, Jupiter - respectively Sun, Jupiter, Mars - respectively Jupiter from Taurus aspecting the Sun in Capricorn
(B) AriesAquariusMoon, Mars, Jupiter - respectively Jupiter, Moon, Mars - respectivelyJupiter from Libra aspecting the Moon in Aries

It should, not be misinterpreted that such findings have no relation with the orthodox dicta or the stipulated, age-old rules of Vedic; nor is the fact that the same overrule the Classical formulae. Rather, it is to show how such findings can be joined with the Classical rules or are juxtaposed in the numerous labyrinths of those doctrines.

Mention should be made here that such a connection between the Moon and Saturn should be borne in mind with other concomitant factors that are needed for strengthening the arrays in the definite modality (especially, the strength of the ascendant, the angular and trinal lords, the Yogakaraka planets for a respective chart in particular, powerful Classical Yogas, and both general and special planetary indications present in the main chart as well as the harmonic-charts like Navaamsha and Dashamaamsha). We also need to check how much the said Lunar and Saturnine traits are inflexibly expressed in a natal chart to validate or repudiate the whole planetary scheme - the Yogas or the bridling factors, the different planetary prerogatives working in a weak or strong, neutral or deft manner, and the apparently common arrays hiding their strength in some uncommon overtone.

REFERENCES & NOTES:

[i] In Vedic Astrology, planets are believed to have their highest (uchcha) and lowest (neecha) places in the Zodiac. In the Classical terminology, the words 'highest' and 'lowest' have been construed as 'exaltation' and 'debility' respectively. Planets are most powerful when exalted, and become weakest when debilitated. Thus, the Sun is exalted in Aries, and attains its debility in Libra. For the Moon, the house of exaltation is Taurus, and debility is Scorpio. For Mars - Capricorn and Cancer. For Mercury - Virgo and Pisces. For Jupiter - Cancer and Capricorn. For Venus - Pisces and Virgo. For Saturn - Libra and Aries. Rahu is exalted in Gemini (some Classical texts say Taurus), and debilitated in Sagittarius (alternatively, Scorpio). In contrast, Ketu is exalted in Sagittarius (or in Scorpio), and debilitated in Gemini (or Taurus). Note that the places for exaltation and debility for any planet are diametrically opposite to each other. Also note that the Moon and Rahu share the same signs of exaltation and debility. The latter is an indication of why Vedic Classical Texts have referred to Rahu being the 'Alter Ego' of the Moon.]

[ii] There is a unique concept in Vedic Astrology regarding the natural significance of the planets in connection with the houses or 'bhaavas' in a Vedic horoscope. All seven planets - the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn (apart from owning, occupying, aspecting, or otherwise being connected, and thereby signifying the house(s) in any respective chart) - signify the qualitative indications of all the twelve houses. The Sun thus indicates the first house or the ascendant itself. The ascendant can be any sign, or any planet can be posited in the ascendant to signify the first house related traits; but the Sun has a natural significance for the first house. Similarly, the second house can be owned, occupied by or connected with any planet, but the natural significator of the second house is Jupiter. Now, all the natural significators for all the twelve houses are given here. First house - The Sun. Second house - Jupiter. Third house - Mars. Fourth house - The Moon. Fifth house - Jupiter. Sixth house - Mercury. Seventh house - Venus. Eighth house - Saturn. Ninth house -The Sun. Tenth house - The Moon. Eleventh house - Jupiter. Twelfth house - Saturn.

[iii] In Vedic Astrology, planets have 'Drishti', which etymologically means 'casting an aspect'. They cast their aspects directly upon the seventh house counted from the house in which they are placed. Apart from their seventh aspects, Jupiter has its fifth and ninth aspects, too, from the house it is occupying. Mars has fourth and eighth aspects, and Saturn thus has third and tenth. An aspect is counted in the same direction the planetary configurations are considered - either clockwise, or anti-clockwise. For example: the Sun, Mercury or Venus is in Capricorn, their seventh aspects would fall in Cancer, be that clockwise or anti-clockwise. If Jupiter is also placed there, then its fifth aspect would fall upon Taurus, seventh upon Cancer, and ninth upon Virgo (counting anti-clockwise). If Mars is in Capricorn, then its fourth aspect would fall upon Aries, seventh upon Cancer, and eighth upon Leo (counting anti-clockwise). In the case of Saturn in Capricorn, the third aspect would fall upon Pisces, seventh aspect upon Cancer, and tenth aspect upon Libra (counting anti-clockwise). 'Drishti' is powerful in effectively influencing any house or combination in the Vedic system.

Among most astrology groups, there seems to be an almost suicidal urge to discredit themselves through ill-conceived actions, immature behaviour, and a lack of any concerted research efforts.
