Her dissertation compares a sample of 1023 injured California workers with a small sample of 55 seriously injured individuals whose birth and injury dates were listed in C.E.O.Carter’s book on accidents, and with the birth and death dates of 206 suicides who were studied by an east coast psychologist. Carter’s accident cases showed the same patterns as Sara's samples.

In an effort to predict the occurrence of work-related accidents and to provide further perspectives to accident prevention, astrological patterns in work injuries were examined. Statistical results indicate that there are distinct periods of time when individuals are more accident-prone. These periods involve hard aspects from the transiting Sun to the Sun's position at birth. The study included 1023 injured people who filed a Worker's Compensation claim and were disabled for at least three months. It was hypothesized that people tend to suffer accidental injuries significantly more frequently around the time of their birthday, three months before or after, or six months after their birthday. The research hypothesis was supported with a high degree of statistical significance. It provides support for some of the basic concepts of both Western Astrology and Jyotish (Vedic Astrology). The results also suggest possible programs that might aid in determining the timing of accidents and thus assist in their prevention, thereby contributing to the field of industrial psychology. This study also provides a hope that the fields of astrology and psychology can be bridged as both attempt to understand human nature and to predict human behavior.

Editor's note: In September 1992, Sara Klein completed a Ph.D. degree in psychology at the University for Humanistic Studies in Del Mar, California. Her dissertation compared the 1023 injured California workers with a small sample of 55 seriously injured individuals whose birth and injury dates were listed in C.E.O.Carter's book on accidents, and with the birth and death dates of 206 suicides who were studied by an east coast psychologist. Carter's accident cases showed the same patterns as Sara's samples; increased accidents when the transiting Sun was conjunct, square or opposite the natal Sun. The suicide cases did not have above-average numbers of hard aspects between the natal and transiting Suns. Suicide is a conscious, deliberate action while accidents are engineered by the unconscious. The Sun symbolizes one's ego-strength and self-esteem. Sara's study implies important differences in this area between suicides and accident "victims."

The chi square results for 1005 injured California workers (omitting a few cuspal individuals) produced a probability of .0000000001. Sara's results could happen by chance once in ten billion samples. Since similar aspects occurred in accident victims from two different California clinics and in Carter's collection from England, the possibility of this result occurring by chance is vanishingly small. One of the graphs of Sara's results is presented here.
